Big Changes at NashVogue

Hello readers! I know it has been a very long time since I have posted on here. Life simply caught up with me this fall in the form of Swine Flu with my one year old, business conferences for my husband, stomach bugs for me, weddings, and other family changes.

I have been hinting since the beginning of year towards some big changes here at NashVogue. With Thanksgiving this week and the new year on the horizon, I feel it is time to start putting my plans into action.

As some may know, I quit my full time job as a stock broker in March to stay home with my little one, help my husband with his business, and simply get a away from career path I didn’t like. Over the year, I have been trying to find a way to mix my love of fashion with my own abilities and have come up with a great solution. Jewelry.

I love making jewelry, wearing jewelry, and enhancing an outfit with jewelry. That being said, I am opening an Etsy store in order to sell my creations with the world. The fashion blog will stay, but will focus a bit more on jewelry. Don’t worry, there will still be plenty of general fashion goodness here and over at Blissfully Domestic!

As a little preview, here is a yummy little piece I designed for my cousin’s wedding earlier this month.

The Bits and Pieces: My Current Favorite Jewelry Trend

The fall trends are out in full force, among them are the fall and winter jewelry trends.  One trend in particular has stood out to me as far as jewelry goes. It’s is a gothic, multi-strand style necklace, most often in black or dark silver. It is often accented with bows, flowers, or other detailing.

The coloring of the necklace goes very well with the colors popping up for Fall. Green, purple, teal, and royal blue all gain a certain  amount of glamor when worn with this necklace.

If you are looking for something that makes a statement without the bulkiness of a bib necklace, look no farther than this gorgeous necklace.

In the Spotlight: Heelarious

I’ve always been a shoe girl. I love them. So when I saw these faux heel crib shoes for babies at Heelarious, I just had to show you!

"Brooke"

Unfortunately for me, I have a little boy, so I have yet to actually get any, but aren’t they adorable? Available in a variety of colors and styles, these soft-soled shoes range in price from $34.50 to $39.50. A bit on the pricey side for a crib shoe, but worth every penny.

"Sadie"

Adorable and stylish, Heelarious shoes are perfect for any diva in training.

Fashion Fail: Winkers – What Were They Thinking?

The other day, my husband sent me a link and said, “I have something for your to write about on your blog.” Now, usually when he says this, it is something hip and fun. Imagine my surprise when I opened the link straight to the product page for Winkers Decorated Pants.

"Eyes" from Winkers

I just about fell off of my chair laughing.

Now, the idea of painting your jeans is almost laughable to me period. But when I saw these?? My main question is, “Who would wear these?” I know very few people who want to draw that kind of attention to their backside. Also, to get the wink to work, your pants would have to be a little on tight side other wise you wouldn’t get the crease. That alone goes against every “fit” mantra I push at all of you. Fit is key and no pants should make that kind of crease.

That being said, I have to give you the full picture. Here a video on Winkers in action (and I do mean action) on YouTube. I look forward to your input on this one.

Vacation

Sorry I’ve been missing! August has just been crazy with my little guy’s birthday and our first ever family vacation to the beach. I was planning to write on the beach (and what a better place to?), however, the condo we stayed at had HORRIBLE internet. Now that I am back to having some nice internet (meaning I can actually load a page), I hope to have some new posts ready for you in the next day or two. Meanwhile, if there is anything you would like to know about, let me know!

Sale Spotter: Tennessee Sales Tax Holiday

One of the best times to shop is quickly approaching! The TN State Sales Tax Holiday begins a week from tomorrow, Friday August 7, and ends Sunday night, August 9. I’ve been saving my money and hope to knock out a lot of fall clothes shopping for my family and I.

The sales tax holiday is a fabulous time to get all of those much needed back to school items and other things you know you are going to need for the upcoming fall/winter season. Here are some tips to hopefully make this gold mine of savings a bit easier.

1. Know what is included in the TN Sales Tax Holiday.

Not everything is covered under the tax free status. Any clothing over $100 – not tax free. School supplies $100 or less are a go, as well as any computer under $1500. My suggestion on the computer – either go to a store or call a help line. Don’t place an order online because it may not be configured for the TN tax holiday. Dell is extremely helpful in this situation.

2. Know what you want ahead of time.

I plan to visit some of the stores I know I will find things at sometime during the upcoming week and scope some things out. Try on some things ahead of time, because the fitting room lines will be outrageous. It’s much less stressful if you know what size you are ahead of time. Then it’s just a case of seek and buy.

3. Look for ways to double up your savings.

A few weeks ago, I purchased a “Birthday Boy” shirt for my son’s first birthday at Carter’s. I was given a coupon good for the month of August that gave me 20% off a $50 purchase. It also had a 20% off a $40 purchase at Osh Kosh (right next door at The Avenue in Murfreesboro). Add those coupons to the sales they already have and the lack of tax and I know my first stops for clothes for my little man. Since the sales and coupons are issued from corporate, the tax-free part is an added savings bonus.

4. Be patient and have fun!

This is more just a warning. The crowds will be high (especially Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday night). Several retailers I’ve spoken to say the sales are higher than that of Black Friday!! So expect the crowds that go with that kind of sales. My guess is they will be even worse this year given the state of the economy and people desperately trying to cut some corners. Take everything in stride and have fun! Let me know your savings when your done. I’m curious!!

By the way, if you aren’t in Tennessee, check this out for a tax holiday schedule in other states.

Outfit Inspirations: What to Wear to a Summer Wedding – Daytime

July seems to be almost as popular as June for gorgeous summer weddings. As much as I love the beauty behind an elaborate, formal evening wedding, some of my favorite weddings are held in the early afternoon. These weddings are much more casual and intimate. Therefore, they require a different dress code altogether.

Robert Rodriguez at ShopStyle

For women, a summer wedding outfit will be breezy and semi-casual. The best thing in this situation would be a cute sundress in a subtle print. You could also pair a light blouse with a pair of dressy bermuda shorts and heels.

Indigo Palms at ShopStyle

For men, the dress is decidedly business casual. Khaki slacks and a button down dress shirt are perfectly acceptable. Since it is a summer wedding, short sleeves are perfectly ok.

Not all summer day weddings are this casual. Use the invitation as another guide to dress. If the invitation is very formal in nature, dress a bit more on the formal side. If you are in doubt, check with the bride or groom to see what they are aiming for.

Fashion Trends: Graphic Tees for Her

Artistic flavored fashion is all around us, with graphic polos for the guys and graphic tees for the girls. The trends are very similar from guy to girl.

For a girl, these tops look great with another trend this season – the scarf. A scarf will add a punch of color to the outfit or help draw out on of the colors in the graphics.

The graphics in the female tees tend to be more colorful than the graphics found in guys fashion. While just as artistic, there are a lot of pinks, blues, blacks, and golds as opposed to a high concentration of black or silver.

I’m a really big fan of all the artistic graphic tees. They take the casual “jeans and a t-shirt” to a whole new level.
