Top 2008 Halloween Costumes: Adult Female

This one was hard. Out of 21 unique, non-“sexy” (I wanted to keep it PG) costumes, only 1 showed up more than once. So, that costume is number 1 on the top 5 list. The remaining 4 consist of classics and one that I found to be just plain funny. Enjoy the top 5 (sort of) adult female costumes of 2008!

Wardrobe Tip: Date Night

My husband and I went on our first date tonight since the baby was born. So I got to thinking, about some great date looks. In order to have some consistency, I stuck to a black/silver color pallet. Since it is fall, these colors are very in. Enjoy!

Wardrobe Tip: What to Wear to Work

With the weather getting cooler, some might be wondering what to wear to work. There are several hot themes this year: layering, ruffles, textures.

When layering, make sure the pieces match and don’t add a lot of bulk. Apples – beware when layering! Your body shape is already a bit top heavy. All of the pieces will add to this appearance of top heaviness.  If you want to layer, make sure to wear something on the bottom half that will even it out, such as an a-line skirt.

Ruffles are very in this year – particularly when layering. They add feminine detailing to what might otherwise be a boring work shirt. Again, apples beware. Ruffles draw the eye up. Our objective with you is to draw the eye down.

There are many fabric textures for you to choose from this year. Cottons, satins, and tweed are just a few of the most popular fabrics out there. I am particularly found of the satins this fall. They add sheen to the look and flatter every body type.

Target Adds to its List of Designers

Target is really trying to up its game. In addition to Isaac Mizrahi, who has been with Target for several years, Target now boasts a clothing collection from Jonathan Saunders, handbags from Anya Hindmarch, and shoes from Sigerson Morrison.

Jonathan Saunders is the latest designer under Jonathan Saunders for Targetthe Go International collection title. Saunders is  not afraid of color, and uses it to create gorgeous detailing in his collection. Some pieces might be described as “mod” and tend to pick up some of the greater elements of 70s style clothing.

Anya Hindmarch is now designing fabulous Anya Hindmarch for Target handbags for Target. Hindmarch’s collection ranges from clutches to hobos and everything in between. They are done in the gorgeous shiny leather that is so popular this year with metal accents. I love the bags done in two tone leather. The punch of color is gorgeous.

Sigerson Morrison has launched a great collectionSigerson Morrison for Target of shoes that I, as a shoe lover, feel I must have one of each! The collection has heels, flats, and this seasons every popular ankle bootie. The colors are bright and edgy. The jewel accents are glitzy and glamorous. I…am…in…shoe heaven!

The great thing is the designers all work together! There is a great look for a business casual outfit using all the featured pictures of the designers above. Target is doing a great thing by bringing designer labels to the middle class.

And…it’s been confirmed! Thakoon Panichgul’s collection for Target will hit stores Christmas Day. (Click for the article on WWDFashion)

Interview with David Harris: Blush Boutique

Wednesday, October 15, I had the pleasure of sitting down with David Harris. He is one of the owners of Blush Boutique in The Shoppes at Brentwood Hills (click here for a map). Their hours are Monday through Saturday 10am – 7pm and Sunday 1pm – 6pm.

The Interview:

Me: Give me a brief description of your store.

David: Essentially, while providing a boutique style atmosphere, our objective is to provide, you know, really great clothing at a great price without having to sacrifice style or the quality. Times are a bit tough right now for many people, but they still want to make sure that they can treat themselves and we want to be the people who allow them to do that.

Me: What are some of the top labels that you sell?

David: We carry some more exclusive lines that you’ll find, Pasha, Trinity, B. McGee, much of which is certainly not going to be found anywhere else in Nashville. Some more of the more recognizable designers that you’ll find are, you know, BCBG, something that resonates a lot with people. We’ve got Laundry by Shelli Segal. All the way up to your designer dresses like Natalie Badgley Mischka. That seems to be very popular as well.

Me: What makes you unique?

David: Once again, I would think that, you know, our niche so to speak is the fact that we’re providing a lot of high end designer stuff. It’s all current season. Its’ all first hand. But at a third of the price.

Me: Who is your favorite designer?

David: My personal favorite designer…the woman wearing the clothes, to be honest, because one designer doesn’t look the same on every girl. So..I don’t have a favorite I guess I’d say.

Me: What can people expect when they come to your store?

David: Hopefully, a comfortable and relaxed environment, intriguing finds and unparalleled customer service.

Me: If you could let people know one thing about your store, what would it be?

David: …We’ve only been open for some odd 10 days at this juncture, so, there’s not a lot of foundation underway at this point. But I think that, moving forward, never really expect to see the same thing. If you came in on a weekly basis you’re more often than not going to find something completely different than your last experience.

The store is great. I love the atmosphere. Everyone I have met there is very nice and friendly. Their selection is great and so are the prices. You should definitely check this store out!

Project Runway Season 5 Finale

First Impressions: Pre-Runway

Kenley: Her attitude is still here! She needs to learn to take constructive criticism. Tim is just trying to help her.

Korto: Kudos to her to make two new outfits prior to runway! I hope she pulls it off. They look great so far.

Leanne: Poor Leanne and that model’s dog! Really…this is why your dog should NOT go everywhere with you. By the way – that blue dress is gorgeous!!

Comments on the Runway

My Favorite Kenley Dress

Kenley: color; bubbles, poof!, love cream with  flowers, ruffles anyone?, cartoonish, snubbed main model!

Korto: good fabrics, good cuts, classic color  Love this neckline!combos without being overwhelming, more wearable for the everyday woman, love the white evening gown, love asymmetrical neckline on green gown, walked with daughter – too cute!!

leanne_final_06 Leanne: good color combos, LOTS of wave detailing – she’s done this a lot before, love blue evening gown – it’s different than everything else. It all looks the same!! Shows off main model

In my opinion – the winner should be Korto. Her collection is best suited to the everyday woman. Her outfits are more practical, while keeping the high fashion qualities necessary to win.

The Winner is…

Congrats to LEANNE!! Her designs were beautiful, I just didn’t think they were the best. However, the judges know best – right? Congrats, Leanne, and best of luck!

Now…what do I watch on Wednesday nights??
