In the Spotlight: Heelarious

I’ve always been a shoe girl. I love them. So when I saw these faux heel crib shoes for babies at Heelarious, I just had to show you!

"Brooke"

Unfortunately for me, I have a little boy, so I have yet to actually get any, but aren’t they adorable? Available in a variety of colors and styles, these soft-soled shoes range in price from $34.50 to $39.50. A bit on the pricey side for a crib shoe, but worth every penny.

"Sadie"

Adorable and stylish, Heelarious shoes are perfect for any diva in training.

In the Spotlight: DonateMyDress.org

Donate your prom and special occasion dresses to DonateMyDress.org.

How many of you have prom dresses, evening dresses, or old bridesmaid dresses in your closet right now? I’ll venture a guess that the number is high, especially with the 2009 prom season drawing to a close. If you are like me, you have no where you can even think of that you would wear the dress a second time too. Even if an event did come up, I’d probably use it as an excuse to have a bit of fun and get a new one.

So, what do you do with the old one? Well, I have a found a great organization to help. Not only do you get to clear out some closet space, but you get to help a young girl who is not as well off as you. DonateMyDress.org is a great resource to help you find a place to donate your special occasion dresses to girls who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get them. You can find out where to donate, browse photos of dress events, and read stories on how the project has made a difference.

I’m always loving ways you spread the fashion love around. I personally have cleaned my closet of prom and special occasion dresses by donating them to an organization in West Kentucky while I was in college. It’s a great feeling and I hope everyone out there will participate.

In The Spotlight: MyBaddBaby.com

This week’s “In The Spotlight” article features an interview with Natasha Allison, owner and creator of Badd Baby. Badd Baby is a line of hip, trendy, artistic fashion for babies age 0-18 months. All of the designs are showcased on onesies and will add flair to any little one’s wardrobe.

Question 1: How did you come up with the idea for Badd Baby?

It’s funny that you ask that! When my son Jackson – the inspiration for the line was smaller he used to bouts of colic and the only thing that would make him laugh was when I used to tickle him and say “Are you a “bad baby, bad baby!”

It always lightened the mood and made us both laugh! My mom actually suggested that I put the two d’s in Badd. I instantly liked it because it takes bad from having a negative connotation to representing the trendier/edgier side of kids.

Question 2: What is your favorite piece?

Wow! That is tough! Hmm…I would say the Koi Fish because there is so much detail and it is funky, it is colorful and just looks so cool!

Question 3: How would you describe your store?

Trendy, funky and hip – but in pint size!

Question 4: Would you ever consider branching out of onesies and expanding the line for toddlers and children?

That is in the works as we speak! I am looking for suggestions from moms and dads regarding what THEY want to see their kids wearing as well. We will always stay on the hip side of the fashion fence but moms and dads taste is SO important to our company. Please make suggestions so we can better serve you!!

Question 5: What is your most popular item for boys? for girls?

I have to be honest I am so fortunate that all of them are flying off the shelves. I never dreamed that the response would be so positive! The most popular has been the Koi Fish and the Rebel Rocker in both girls and boys.

Question 6: If there is one thing about your line that you want people to know, what would it be?

This line represents a fun, relaxed and super carefree attitude that I try to embody as an individual but more so as a parent. I just want people to have fun with it and enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed creating them!

Thank you, Natasha! I hope you all enjoy the fun, eclectic fashions over at Badd Baby. My little guy will probably be getting the Cassette Tape Grunge onesie very soon.

In the Spotlight: Shyne Boutique

In March, East Nashville saw the opening of a new, upscale fashion house, Shyne Boutique. I have yet to get out to East Nashville and check it out for myself, but the press release (below) I received definitely piqued my interest. The brands Shyne stocks are amazing and the conceirge and style consultant are a step above the ordinary boutique. I hope to make it out there in the next week or two, and when I do, I’ll let you know more. In the meantime, check it out for yourself and let me know what you think!

Shyne Boutique offers an upscale shopping experience in East Nashville.New Boutique Adds Shyne to East Nashville

Nashville, TN — (March 4, 2009) — Creating new nostalgia, Shyne Boutique is the latest addition to the historic East Nashville neighborhood to offer the best in fashion for men’s and women’s apparel, shoes and accessories.

Nestled in a shotgun-style building in the heart of the Historic 5 Points district, Shyne mixes Southern charm with the high-end fashion vibe found Los Angeles and New York. Packed tight with couture yet affordable clothing, the boutique serves the Nashville shopper with a distinct taste for hard-to-find designers like Vintage China, Anoname, 1921 and Rivet De Cru.

Shyne carries a number of high fashion brands, including Vintage China, 1921, and Privacy Wear.

Shyne is also the city’s exclusive carrier of Privacy Wear, the popular women’s clothing and denim line themed for breast cancer awareness whose dark fitted jeans and “I Want More Privacy” tees are favorites of Hollywood starlets like Miley Cyrus, Jessica Alba, Hayden Panettiere, and Eva Longoria Parker. The line donates 10% of their proceeds to breast cancer research.

Poised to be East Nashville’s go-to spot for fashion, the location is a prime spot for shoppers with variety in mind. “We moved to East Nashville because of the explosion of growth in this region of the city. East Nashville is the city’s hot spot. There is so much new development here and we wanted to be a part of the movement,” said owner Corey Jones who was attracted to the diversity in the area when seeking to open a new location.

Jones and his partner, Latda Khamphengphet, first entered in the retail business in 2007. In an effort to expand and learn more about the area, the team joined the Historic East Nashville Merchants Association and found other new and thriving businesses on their block including Hue Tanning Salon, Metropolis, Kali Yuga Yoga, J’s Pampered Paws and Platinum Salon.

Haute shoppers with hometown taste can also find Nashville designers at Shyne. The boutique currently carries local lines like Marti Mcfli, Upper Echelon and Cajun Moon, a ready-to-wear line by O’More College of Design grad Heather Kennedy. “We give our local designers a place to launch their lines so we welcome those unique and unseen pieces at Shyne,” said Jones.

Shyne offers a personal conceirge service, allowing for even the busiest person to have high quality fashion.

Additionally, the boutique offers personal style coaching and concierge services to cater to shoppers with busy lifestyles. “We will identify the client’s likes and dislikes of style, color, and fit. Our concierge clients won’t ever have to set foot in the store because we can service them in their homes or offices,” Jones said.

The boutique is open to the public and offers complimentary refreshments to customers on Saturday afternoons.

Shyne is located at 1010 Fatherland St, Nashville, TN, 37206. For more information, hours or consultations, call 615.226.1025 or email shynestyle@hotmail.com. Visit www.shynestyle.com.

Blush Boutique

The following is an interview I did with David Harris of Blush Boutique back in October of 2008. As I’ve mentioned before, I am going to be restructuring NashVogue a bit. The first step in this restructuring is to have a different column each day of the week. On Thursdays, I want to showcase small boutiques and newcomer designers. If you have any boutiques you’d like to know about or a designer friend trying to make it in the business, let me know! I’d love to showcase them here. Enjoy!

Wednesday, October 15, I had the pleasure of sitting down with David Harris. He is one of the owners of Blush Boutique in The Shoppes at Brentwood Hills (click here for a map). Their hours are Monday through Saturday 10am – 7pm and Sunday 1pm – 6pm.

The Interview:

Me: Give me a brief description of your store.

David: Essentially, while providing a boutique style atmosphere, our objective is to provide, you know, really great clothing at a great price without having to sacrifice style or the quality. Times are a bit tough right now for many people, but they still want to make sure that they can treat themselves and we want to be the people who allow them to do that.

Me: What are some of the top labels that you sell?

David: We carry some more exclusive lines that you’ll find, Pasha, Trinity, B. McGee, much of which is certainly not going to be found anywhere else in Nashville. Some more of the more recognizable designers that you’ll find are, you know, BCBG, something that resonates a lot with people. We’ve got Laundry by Shelli Segal. All the way up to your designer dresses like Badgley Mischka. That seems to be very popular as well.

Me: What makes you unique?

David: Once again, I would think that, you know, our niche so to speak is the fact that we’re providing a lot of high end designer stuff. It’s all current season. Its’ all first hand. But at a third of the price.

Me: Who is your favorite designer?

David: My personal favorite designer…the woman wearing the clothes, to be honest, because one designer doesn’t look the same on every girl. So..I don’t have a favorite I guess I’d say.

Me: What can people expect when they come to your store?

David: Hopefully, a comfortable and relaxed environment, intriguing finds and unparalleled customer service.

Me: If you could let people know one thing about your store, what would it be?

David: …We’ve only been open for some odd 10 days at this juncture, so, there’s not a lot of foundation underway at this point. But I think that, moving forward, never really expect to see the same thing. If you came in on a weekly basis you’re more often than not going to find something completely different than your last experience.

The store is great. I love the atmosphere. Everyone I have met there is very nice and friendly. Their selection is great and so are the prices. You should definitely check this store out!

Target Adds to its List of Designers

Target is really trying to up its game. In addition to Isaac Mizrahi, who has been with Target for several years, Target now boasts a clothing collection from Jonathan Saunders, handbags from Anya Hindmarch, and shoes from Sigerson Morrison.

Jonathan Saunders is the latest designer under Jonathan Saunders for Targetthe Go International collection title. Saunders is  not afraid of color, and uses it to create gorgeous detailing in his collection. Some pieces might be described as “mod” and tend to pick up some of the greater elements of 70s style clothing.

Anya Hindmarch is now designing fabulous Anya Hindmarch for Target handbags for Target. Hindmarch’s collection ranges from clutches to hobos and everything in between. They are done in the gorgeous shiny leather that is so popular this year with metal accents. I love the bags done in two tone leather. The punch of color is gorgeous.

Sigerson Morrison has launched a great collectionSigerson Morrison for Target of shoes that I, as a shoe lover, feel I must have one of each! The collection has heels, flats, and this seasons every popular ankle bootie. The colors are bright and edgy. The jewel accents are glitzy and glamorous. I…am…in…shoe heaven!

The great thing is the designers all work together! There is a great look for a business casual outfit using all the featured pictures of the designers above. Target is doing a great thing by bringing designer labels to the middle class.

And…it’s been confirmed! Thakoon Panichgul’s collection for Target will hit stores Christmas Day. (Click for the article on WWDFashion)
