Your Personal Style: Fab Fashionista

The uber trendy girl sitting near you at the coffee shop is up next. Fab Fashionista is the girl with the look you’re dying to have. Her jacket? You saw it in this month’s vogue. Her shoes? Straight out of InStyle. And yes…they are Louboutin’s.

The Clothes

It is much harder to pin Fab Fashionista to one particular style. Top to bottom she is high fashion chic. Her wardrobe changes with trends, and she wouldn’t be caught dead wearing last seasons Prada heels. If it’s not new, it’s not good.

One thing can be said about her clothing, they are the envy of every fashionista wannabe out there. Many of us can not even afford to keep up with her wardrobe and have to settle for creativity to get us by.

What the Clothes Say

“She’s got it together.” Fab Fashionista’s highly fashion forward wardrobe shows that she cares about herself, they way she looks, and what others think about her. The obsessive use of labels may even show a bit a of insecurity. She needs the big names to show that she is in the know, can afford whatever she wants, and doesn’t need to answer to anyone.

Fab Fashionista may have another, less deirable impression given by her clothes. Thanks to movies such as The Devil Wears Prada and numerous other programs to show the cut throat attitude of the fashion industry, many people may few her in a negative tone. They may see her as snobby, stuck up, and ruthless. She’s gotten where she is by less than pleasant means.

Tomorrow will conclude the Personal Style series. Have you figured out your personal style yet? Most people don’t fit into one category. I know I am at least three or four different style personalities. Which one I am today depends on how I feel when I get up that day. Which are you?

Your Personal Style: Boho Beautiful

The first clothing personality is the ever beautiful, Boho. Breezy and fun, Boho Beautiful is a bit an earth mother. She loves green things – hemps, earth-friendly fabrics, etc. Color and flowing fabrics are staples of Boho Beautiful’s closet.

The Clothes

The clothes of Boho Beautiful are colorful and bright. Prints abound in her wardrobe. Often, the color is in the bottoms and typically in the form of brighlty patterned skirts. Often, the handbag is another source of color. Patchwork handbags worn long on the shoulder are often the way Boho Beautiful carries around her cell phone.

Her tops are simple. A graphic tee. A tank. Simple over flashy is the way to go. Besides, there is more than enough color elsewhere. The simplistic nature of her top balances out the more flowing aspects of her outfit.

Her shoes are usually simple sandals. Flip flops are her best friends, as are Birkenstocks. Wedges will dress up her outfit for a date or a nice event.

Her accessories are simple. Typically made from beads and hemp, she adorns her neck, wrists, and, more often than, not her ankles. She doesn’t take a long time on her appearance, but always appears put together.

What the Clothes Say

I’m earth friendly! There is a certain aura of “hippie chic” in Boho Beautiful’s wardrobe. She’s loves anything “green” she can get her hands on. Easy and breezy is her wardrobe style. She has a very approachable look, and is assumed to be very outgoing and friendly.

In closing, I just want to clarify that I don’t want to stereotype anyone too much. If you are like me, you are one or more of these any day of the week. I know I fit into more than one category! I just thought it might be interesting to see, if clothes could talk, what would they say about you?

Michelle Obama Gets Around…

…when it comes to magazine covers. From People Magazine to Vogue, even sharing the cover with Oprah, a first in the Magazine’s nine year history, people are infatuated with the new First Lady and her sense of style.

For the first time in history, Oprah shares her magazine cover with Michelle Obama

Although it hasn’t been all good press for Michelle and her fashion sense.  From her fashion flop at the debate, her blue dress debacle… and I don’t want to even go into election night. Although it seems like being in the White House has wisened up her fashion sense.  Based on the spreads above, what do you think?

Style Alert: Spring Colors, Part 2

Monday, I discussed the first three hot colors for spring. Today, we’ll go into the last three.

Pink: Hot Pink. Magenta. Whatever you call it, it’s bright! A brighter shade of the deep fuchsia we saw this fall, this shade of pink just emanates spring. It’s fun and bright – I love it! Pair this color with the green for a fun color combination.

Orange: Finally, we have a City Style Wrap 3/4 Sleeve Top by New York & Companynew color for spring. It  is hard to nail down a specific shade of orange. I have seen everything from a deep orange to a peel, almost peach orange. Be careful when choosing this color. It can be a hard shade for some skin tones to wear. This pairs well with blue or green.

Purple: Again, we see Agent, Silk Blouse by Nine Westanother repeat color from fall. This is the same shade we saw in the fall. It is a deep, royal purple. It pairs very well with the yellow, blue, and green. The great thing about seeing a repeat color is the budget fashionistas out there can recycle some fall fashions for the spring.

There you have it – my picks for hot colors this spring. Let me know if you see any more color trends for the coming season. I can’t wait for warm weather!

Style Alert: Spring Colors, Part 1

Ah, springtime. Flowers, bugs, sunshine, and warm weather. I especially can’t wait for that last one (it’s about 25 degrees for a week!). It’s also time to start planning your spring wardrobe. The first thing to do is make sure you know the hot colors of the season.Solid Button Top from Charlotte Russe

Lemon Yellow: A lighter, more cheerful version of the mustard yellow we saw this fall. However, many times, this yellow has almost a greenish hue to it that I am not so much a fan of. Pair this yellow with green and gray.

City Style 2fer Top at New York & Company Blue: This blue is very similar to the blue we saw this fall. It has a bit of a lighter hue than the royal blue of the fall, but not much. It goes very well with the yellows and greens out this season. I love this color for Spring. Silk Twill Pleated Blouse at Banana Republic

Green: Again, the green this season is not very different from what we saw in the fall. This is a true grass green color. It pairs extremely well with the yellow and blue this season. It is a very fresh, spring color. Much more appropriate this season than it was for the fall.

Check back in for the remaining three hot colors for spring.

Golden Globes Fashion

Ah… The Golden Globes. The first of the awards shows for 2009. A slideshow of celebrity fashions. A time to criticize and celebrate the good and bad. I thought a live blog post would be just te thing! Enjoy! Please, join the conversation. Tell me what you think!!

For a band, The Jonas Brothers sure don’t know how to coordinate. One is formal, one is “business”, and one is a Johnny Cash wanna-be.

Rainn Wilson actually looks really good! The silver tie is very chic.

Nancy Odell looks like she tried WAY to hard to get that “Grecian Goddess” look.

Christina Applegate looks great! I love the flares in the bottom of her gorgeous Roberto Cavelli dress.

Miley Cyrus is wearing a very mature dress…then she opens her mouth. It’s like great!

Eva Mendes dress has too much fabric in the chest. It’s like there is air in her top! On a good note, the necklace is great! I love the color and design.

Deborah Messing’s hair is…wow. It must be humid in LA! However, that dress, fabulous! The is perfect for her.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s dress is great! The print suits her fantastically (although it’s not somethins I personally like). I don’t like the extra fabric at her chin though. It overshadows her petite face.

Drew Barrymore’s hair looks like she got it done here in Nashville. Country music big hair, anybody??

Hayden Panettiere’s dress is gorgeous! The purple shade is beautiful on her. Her hair is in a classic style.  The cute fits her petite frame and shows off her hourglass figure perfectly.

Zac Efron and  Vanessa Hudgens look more like they are going to their High School Musical Prom instead of the Golden Globes. And what is up with his hair??

I love Kate Winslet’s dress!! The velvet bow around the waist adds to the elegance of the dress and the classical style that is Kate.

Anne Hathaway is gorgeous. The dress fits her like a glove and accentuates her figure in the most flattering way. Her make-up is great. The bright red of the lipstick compliments her porcelain skin.

Marisa Tomei’s gone a little too far into the “pirate” look. The top is too baggy and too ruffled. All I can think of is Seinfeld’s “Puffy Shirt” and the drama that went with it.

Beyonce looks great in the goldish color of her dress.

Sting just doesn’t look right with a beard…

Blake Lively’s dress is way too tight under her bum. It would be much nicer if it fell straight down. Now she looks like she has too much junk in her trunk…

J. Lo needs to stop with the low cut dresses. She’s been there, done that, taped it to her chest…

Sandra Bullock is so “girl-next-door”. Her dress is, dare I say, cute? It suits her perfectly.

Keep tuned! I will continue live-blogging during the Globes!

More on J Lo’s dress, the half shiny, half not part at her hips does NOTHING for her pear-shaped body.

Sting should know that it is NOT cool to tuck your sunglasses in the neck of your shirt when you are presenting at a formal event!

Rumor Willis looks grown up and mature. She seems to have really grown into the fame her name has thrust upon her. The color of her dress compliments the hue of her hair wonderfully.

Eva Longoria Parker’s red dress is a gorugeous color for her. However, the cut on the best is just asking for a wardrobe “malfunction”.

Laura Dern’s dress is cute in a vintage sort of way. The sheer above the bust is class, and the cut of the sleeve is perfect for her slender shoulders (to create that great hourglass look).

I like Eva Mendes dress even less now that I see the big blob of fabric at her hip.

Sally Hawkins pulls off the sheer top dress much better than Laura Dern. The trim adds a subtle sparkle to her face. The shape of the skirt is flattering and detailed without being too over-worked.

Demi Moore’s outfit looks great. The cut is flattering and makes her appear younger – younger than her daughter Rumor!

Colin Farrell, the suit is great, but ruined by the whole gum-chewing incident!

The color of Laura Linney’s dress is entirely unflattering for her. She’s blonde all over! The shape is great, but the sparkle a the waist, when looking straight on, gives her the look of being pregnant.

Rene Zellwegger, a normally strong fashion maven, is a total flop tonight. The sheer top andsleeves are all wrong. Even though everything is covered, the shape does nothing for her petite torso and pin-up curves. The wide flare dress throws her proportion all of whack and makes her look bottom heavy.

Glenn Close looks like she is wear a sparkly version of my grandmother’s curtains. The cut is unflattering and old. There are much better options for her.

Emma Thompson’s dress is very mother-of-the-bride. Too unflattering and almost morbid – like she is on her way to a funeral.

Is Mickey Rourke dressing in character tonight? What is with the sequined scarf WITH the neck tie??

Another Golden Globes done. Some great speeches, some great clothes, and more of the opposite. I’d love to hear what you all have to say about it. Have a great night!! (I will try to get some pictures up tomorrow.)

Best Dressed Mom-To-Be of 2008

While expecting my first child this year, I became addicted to the site BabyCenter.com. It is still an addiction today. On the site are several blogs, one of which is FameBaby. Today, FameBaby had a post right up my alley – “Vote for the Best Dressed Mom-to-Be of 2008”.

My vote: Angelina Jolie. The stunning green Max Angelina Jolie - Montee des marches pour le film Kung Fu Panda - 61 eme Festival de Cannes - 15/05/2008 - JSB / PixPlanete Azria  gown is extremely flattering given the size of her tummy. It shows off her bump perfectly, without being too showy. The classic, simple hair paired with the dress makes her look absolutely adorable. In this gown, she is the epitome of “cute and pregnant”.

Normally, at this point, I would pick one I didn’t like. However, they are all great! I think being pregnant has made me a softy on the subject. They are all very “yummy mummies”. Go to the post and tell me which is your favorite!

Christmas Party Series: Casual (Him)

For some reason, this series has been hard to complete. With everything going on this Christmas season, it’s just been hard to keep posting! But, we comes to a close with casual dress for him.

Casual comes easy for most men. Jeans and a t-shirt are typical, but you might want to consider other alternatives. One option is a sweater. There are some great half-zip sweater out there this year that look great on just about any man.

Another option (if you are younger) is to pair your t-shirt with an open button up. I say this is good if you are younger, because this is popular with the young men’s styles now. As with women who were styles that are popular for teen girls, you don’t want to dress outside of what is appropriate.

Finally, you can go back to the polo or button up shirt. Choose a fun color or pattern to make this a more casual look.

Day To Night: As with the woman’s casual look, it is hard to make this an easy transition if your office is business professional. It will probably be easiest to simply pack the extra outfit. If your office is business casual, you could get away with just wearing what you wear to work. if you want to dress down even more, take a pair of jeans with you and just wear the shirt you went to work in.

Christmas Party Series: Casual (Her)

We’re almost to the end of our Christmas party series. This is the last dress level to discuss. (By the way, sorry no post yesterday, NashVogue had a touch of the flu!)

A casual dress code for her can mean a lot of fun. You could do jeans and a sweater, or you could take it as a license to have a little fun. Jeans with a fun and funky top make for a great outfit. Pair this with some fun (maybe sparkly) flats, and a casual bag to dress it down. Have a little fun! A casual dress code means your hostess doesn’t really mind what you wear. This is your chance to show off a little of your own fashion style. Just as a word of caution – if you are one who likes to dress “up”, you may be the only one there in a cocktail dress and stilettos.

Day to Night: There is not a very easy way to go day to night on this. Pack the extra outfit. If you can get away with it, were the top to work with slacks or under your suit. Just make sure you are within the confines of your work dress code.

Christmas Party Series: Business Casual (Her)

A step down from formal wear is business casual. While not truly casual, business casual allows you a small bit of comfort, while still dressing up.

For a girl, business casual often constitutes slacks or skirt and a nice top. Classic, straight-leg slacks make for a nice clean line and work for nearly every body type.

Now, since it is a Christmas party, you can have a little more fun with the top – just don’t go overboard. A little shimmer, maybe some detailing (such as beads) but that’s about it. Avoid low cut necklines and tops that are too casual.

Banana Republic at ShopStyle

Day To Night: Since most offices are business casual, this is pretty cut and dry. For a more formal outfit, simply pair a suit jacket over your top (make sure it is an office appropriate top).
